After meeting BBC representatives at a toy fair, American Charles Newfeld was sufficiently impressed with the Daleks and convinced of their market potential – the BBC was then trying to sell Doctor Who to America, and the film Dr. Who and the Daleks was already on release – that he became keen to add the creatures to his 'Bendy' toy empire. Consequently he produced a Bendy Dalek which came in one of three colours – black, grey or white.
