The screwdriver has a couple of 'secret sounds', activated as follows: You press the main button 3 times and on the third, hold it down. This produces a special noise. A different noise occurs if you press the main button 4 times and on the fourth, hold it down. However, the initial release of the toy seemed to have a problem where if the 'special sounds' were activated, then the whole sound function stopped working completely.

Updated version of the Eleventh Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver, which removes Matt Smith from the packaging, uses a different colour font, and has a darker in-pack design. The screwdriver itself is also lighter and does not 'break-down' when the extra sounds are activated, as with the first model.
