This was the first piece of merchandise to feature Tom Baker's Doctor, being produced several months in advance of his TV debut in Robot. The paper in the pads was specially treated so that a pen pressed on the top sheet would leave a copy on the lower one. The pad also included a code sheet, the idea being that the user could send coded messages to friends whilst retaining a copy. The pads were issued by John Morriss to support the Save the Children Fund. Only 5,000 units were produced.
