The official publication date was given in Retail Newsagent Bookseller & Stationer (26 September 1964 edition). This is where the claim to be the ‘fastest selling children’s book’ appeared. Other sources give the publication date for The Dalek Book as three months earlier, on 30 June 1964, which is unlikely to be correct considering that the agreement to produce the book had been signed just seven weeks earlier.
