Product Description:

'Is it just because I am a grumpy old(ish) man that the number of things that drive me bonkers is increasing day by day?'

Have you ever wanted to shout at the automated phone system, rail against the state of the roads or wonder why oh why bureaucracy has to get in the way of everything? Colin Baker has been writing a weekly column for his local paper, the Bucks Free Press, for the past 21 years, giving readers the benefit of his wisdom on many and varied topics. Now you can enjoy a collection of Colin's Bucks Free columns, all in one place.

Colin Baker describes himself as actor, columnist, writer, husband, father, Wycombe Wanderers fan, grumpy old man, and amateur zoo keeper.

For many he is Doctor Who, having played the role during the 1980s and still happy to meet fans all over the world at conventions and fan gatherings. With many acting credits to his name including The Brothers in which he played the ruthless Paul Merroney, he is a well-respected figure equally at home on the stage or a television screen, and in more recent years starring once again as the Doctor in audio plays by the much respected Big Finish Productions.

For the past 21 years, Colin has written a weekly column for his local newspaper, the Bucks Free Press, discussing many and varied topics from renewing his car insurance to local government, from football to the state of the world. Colin continues to write his weekly column. He is aiming for the world record of the longest running weekly column by one author, without a break ... whatever that record may be! He can also be found commenting on the world at large via his Twitter feed.

The Doctor meets old friends - and old enemies. But which is which - and who is Who? One thing is sure: they all have a story to tell...

The Story Demon by Julian Richards
The Doctor and Mrs Clarke find themselves on a forest world where human settlers shelter from the night in a village built from wrecked spaceships, living in fear of the Birnamen, creatures who raid their settlement leaving death in their wake.

But are the Birnamen really to blame? Or does the truth lie with the villagers' 'Story Demon', the hollow travel casing of a very familiar alien creature which they use to entertain their children...

The Key to Many Worlds by Paul Magrs
The Doctor and Constance arrive in thirteenth century Baghdad and encounter an ageing and disenchanted Marco Polo. His adventures at an end, he has been ordered to transport a certain enchantress back to the Doge's palace in Venice. The Doctor realises his danger too late, as his mind is swapped with that of the enchantress - the notorious Iris Wildthyme!

Now clapped in irons and trapped in Iris's form, the Doctor is dragged along in Marco's caravan as it trails across the desert once more... and only Mrs Clarke can save him.

Inconstancy by Ian Potter
On the highly regulated colony world of Hoi, the Doctor is captured by the authorities and taken to the forbidden zone for 're-education'. Mrs Clarke escapes and discovers an amorphous being in hiding. This protean creature craves purpose and identity, and wants Constance to make it an instrument of her will. Desperate to rescue the Doctor, she agrees - and suddenly Hoi is threatened by a swarm of wild and ravenous Mrs Clarkes!

For a hundred years, Sunlight has been a beacon of hope shining across a troubled galaxy, an artificial paradise on a frozen world offering safe haven for the super-rich, and employment for even the poorest of labourers. At least, that's what the adverts say.

Unfortunately for Governor Robert Hodan, one of his engineers has just discovered a pair of strange-looking pods lodged in a satellite. So Sunlight, that glittering verdant oasis, will never be the same again.

Because, as the Doctor knows only too well, on planets where the Krynoid gets established, the vegetation eats the animals...

In Victorian England, the Great Detective, Madame Vastra, her resourceful spouse, Jenny Flint, and their loyal valet, Strax, solve conundrums, fight injustice and capture criminals - but an enemy has taken up residence undetected.

Vastra believes trespassers are close at hand, and seeks out clues in some of the Gang's previous cases...

2.4 Anne of a Thousand Light Years by James Kettle
The course of true love never does run smooth - especially when it involves a high-born young lady, a humble farmhand and extra-terrestrial chameleons on the lookout for breeding stock.

Will Lady Anne Warminster marry the man of her dreams? Will the amorphous Glossophants secure their chosen spawn bride? Will Jenny ever finish reading a novel by Anthony Trollope?

In the heart of the English countryside, the Gang tackle an assignment involving romance, skulduggery and horse manure.

2.5 Pater Noster by Gary Russell
Something is hiding in the sewers of London, picking off the poor and lost souls who live down there...

Madame Vastra opens a case file that takes her back to her early days and a Life Task that must be finally fulfilled. A case where she and her friends face death from an enemy capable of shredding matter into echoing screams...

2.6 The Gentlemen Thieves by Lauren Mooney and Stewart Pringle
Vastra reviews the case of a 'one-man crime wave' - break-ins and burglaries, committed by the same handsome and daring thief, even when they were committed at exactly the same time.

Unravelling the secrets of these doppelganger ne’er-do-wells, the Gang touch on the fringe of a bigger conspiracy. But as Vastra recalls the past, the dangers of the present are closing in.

In Victorian England, the Great Detective, Madame Vastra, her resourceful spouse, Jenny Flint, and their loyal valet, Strax, solve conundrums, fight injustice and capture criminals - but a shapeshifting enemy is moving against them...

Hunting down their foe amid London society, Vastra is driven to distraction, and the Gang ousted from their home - before a final confrontation!

2.10 I Married a Zygon by Alan Ronald
The Gang visit an old friend in a haunted mansion. Miss Faversham is suffering a mysterious malady, and her engagement to the curious Lord Briar convinces Vastra she can scent the enemy...

As Jenny helps supernatural investigator Harriet Cross catch a ghost, they discover something far more dangerous loose inside the walls of Briar Hall.

2.11 A Passion for Fashion by Helen Goldwyn
Society ladies are losing their fortunes and growing mortally sick - apparently infected by insatiable desire for the designs of enigmatic hat-maker, Monsieur Declerq.

With the help of a shop-girl, the Gang uncover rivalry in the fashion world and a dark trade in cruel importation. They also find that Monsieur Declerq is much more than a flamboyant fashionista.

2.12 The Final Poblom by Lauren Mooney & Stewart Pringle
The villainous trespasser has finally succeeded in banishing the Paternosters from their home, using the most powerful weapon in his arsenal: the bailiffs.

Stuck in a seedy boarding house, the Gang soon realise something else is afoot. Things are going missing. Something is munching its way through London, and it may be the answer to all their problems...

4 x CDs. Read by Michelle Asante

Michelle Asante reads this brand new adventure for the Fifteenth Doctor and Belinda.

"A piercing shriek ruptured the silence. The agonised howl of a creature in deep, shattering pain. That haunting, spectral scream."

When a psychic shriek for help nearly overwhelms the TARDIS, the Doctor and Belinda track the source to a distant planet. There they find a sentient, telepathic bioship named Adama and ragged colonists descended from the original crew. Adama is dying, and their spectral screams are growing strong enough to kill anyone in the vicinity.

When Adama crashed 100 years ago, it was with a great treasure on board, stolen from the ruthless Gangnax Imperium – technology that could either unite worlds or destroy them. If they are to save the bioship, the Doctor and Belinda must survive suspicious colonists, greedy bounty hunters and military forces determined to reclaim what’s theirs – before Adama’s final death throes destroy them all.

Michelle Asante reads Hannah Fergesen's original novel featuring the Doctor, as played on TV by Ncuti Gatwa, and Belinda Chandra, as played on TV by Varada Sethu.
