Cyberman Bust in ceramic Polystone. 18.9" high, 12.5" long, 9" deep.

Each Cyberman Bust has been originally sculpted from clay, which allows the sculptor to be freer, giving the pieces that dynamic and organic feel. The finished clay sculpt 'masters' are then taken to be moulded, and each subsequent piece has been carefully hand cast from this mould using ceramic polystone, which allows for the faithful reproduction of detail and texture applied to the original sculpt. The finishing touch is the skilful application of hand painting and finishing, which brings the sculpt to life. The end result is a centre piece and talking point for anyone's living room!

Medium: Cold cast marble resin, hand finished and painted.

50th Anniversary of the Cybermen

The Cybermen first appeared in 'The Tenth Planet', an episode first aired on the BBC on 8th October, 1966.  The episode is also notable for being the First Doctor, William Hartnell's, final episode and the first time we would see the Doctor regenerate.

Just like the Doctor, the Cybermen have had many incarnations and this intimidating piece from Edge Sculpture has been especially created in a unique Gold Patina to celebrate those 50 chilling years of hiding behind the sofa.

A Limited Edition of Only 50 Pieces, each sculpture will be individually numbered with a Certificate of Authenticity and signed by the sculptor Matt Buckley.

Cyberman Bust - Edge Sculpture
Sculpted by Matt Buckley

Edge Sculpture is a contemporary range of pieces with the intent to be both striking and unique and raging with life. Up until now the fierceness of the carnivore, the silent power of the ape and the striking beauty of a goddess has provided the brief for this fine art fine series of work, but from late 2014 I was incredibly fortunate to gain the trust of the BBC and was given the permission to begin sculpting a Cyberman Bust.

The only caveat from the BBC was that the bust was one of the latest variants of the Cybermen as initially introduced in the episode 'A Nightmare in Silver', which made perfect sense because at this particular time they had already began the series 8 World Tour whilst I was building the armature and throwing on the clay.

It really did not take long for me to get the shape of the piece working and it after a couple of comedy 'selfies' to demonstrate the scale of the piece, I nailed my feet to the floor for a couple of weeks until I felt the Cyberman had come to life and he had been sculpted to virtual completion.

Even though this is a very stylised piece of work the intention was that you could still appreciate which variant it was, so I even made sure that the heavily chiselled handles still contained the correct number of grooves and slats of the superbly designed actual cyborg. I have to mention that you really do get a firm sense of how well something is designed when you are constantly observing images and certainly with the latest Cyberman Variant there are so many mathematically beautiful lines that have been so carefully balanced that when they shroud such an emotionally desolate and soulless being it becomes even more eerie in its form.

This now completed piece has been cased, moulded, cast and painted. He is larger than life and officially licensed by the BBC.
